The Ria Formosa Natural Park is one of the most amazing places of the Algarve. It was elected as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal. Classified as a Natural Park in 1987, the Ria Formosa encompasses an area of about 18 000 hectares. A paradise for birdwatchers, the Ria Formosa is considered an important bird area (IBA) and is part of the Natura 2000 Network. This is one of the most important areas for aquatic birds in Portugal, hosting on a regular basis more than 20,000 birds during the wintering period.

On this Nature Park we can find other endangered species such as the chameleon - a reptile that only exists in the south of Portugal and the seahorse, where we have one of the largest populations of seahorses in the world. The Ria Formosa is also known for the Portuguese Water Dog, a breed native from the Algarve and almost threatened with extinction some decades ago.

- If you've arrived at faro airport, you'll notice that you'll have a roundabout with some statues looking at the sky, just when you leave the airport! In the roundabout there are 3 exits: 1 for the airport, other one to Faro city and the last one to the beach - you follow the one to the beach (if you are leaving the airport, it's the exit on the left), if you arrive, it's the exit on the right. Follow the road to the beach and stop at the first corner to the left - we will be there waiting for you with a couple of segways in a white van with some coloured circles and Segways in it's design.
