Historical Walking Tour of Santiago de Chile

This is a great tour for history buffs and those who love to learn and admire the struggles that a country had to go through to reach where it is to this day. On this tour you will get to know more about Chilean history by visiting the Museum of History & Human Rights and the General Cemetery of Santiago.

The Museum of history opened its doors in 2010 during the term of the first female president, Michelle Bachelet. Ever since it opened its doors in 2010 this has been a high profile place and a must-see cultural institution. This museum contains a large variety of documents, archives, innovative sight & sound presentations about the military coup and the human rights violations between 1973 and 1990. After your visit to the museum you will stop to have a delightful lunch in an old style French restaurant. This restaurant has a number of antique items including furniture and decoration that make you feel as though you are in the past! This is a great way to see how the Europeans had such a strong influence on Chile’s history and development.

After finishing lunch you will make your way to the General Cemetery of Santiago. It is estimated that there are 2 million burials located here and it is considered one of the largest cemeteries in Latin America. This cemetery was created in 1821 and a number of highly influential Chileans chose to be buried here, including: former president Salvador Allende and musician Víctor Jara. There are also a number of impressive mausoleums, lush gardens and a large variety of sculptures that enhance the area.
